A tour of Google's new Experimental Search.... →
At Google’s new experimental search features page, a total of five projects are available for users to try: Alternate view for search results, Keyword suggestions, Keyboard shortcuts, Left-hand search navigation, and Right-hand contextual search navigation. Users can only elect to use one experimental feature at a time, and the only reason that explains this choice is Google’s focus on...

Techdirt: EMI Brings Newspaper Free Music Giveaway... →
Prince gave his last CD away to all the subscribers to a UK newspaper. It was a coup for him and for the paper. Noted innovative thinking record label EMI noticed and is trying the same strategy with NY Post subscribers. Its always good to try something.

Rice Demographics - Boing Boing TV A theatre company called Stan’s Cafe has an exhibit called “All the People in the World: The America’s” that represents people as a single grain of rice to help spectators visualize statistics. This is the most interesting thing I’ve seen all day.

As a planner I’m a fan of anything that can help me understand how people think learn, and remember, as well as percieve my brand. With that said I often wonder why we don’t take advantage of science a little more often. I’m not saying we need to turn planning into brain surgery or that I agree with everything presented in this particular article, but the more informed we are...

Or Maybe Not...Qtrax's wishful thinking →
This just in from Wired: Qtrax apparently does not have any of the major labels signed onto their p2p file sharing service. It isn’t a step in the wrong direction its really not a step at all. Stay tuned.

Major Labels Allow P2P Music Sharing on Qtrax →
Wired is reporting that ad supported p2p music sharing may be on its way, with the major labels getting on board with some kind of convoluted pay-per dl or pay-per-listen model. I’m not sure how any of this would actually work and its certain that not everyone will be happy at the end of the day. However, it is nice that labels like EMI (who are rumored to be dropping their RIAA funding)...

hulu: Johnny Live Alot: The Simpsons I’ve been a beta member of hulu since October. I had my doubts at first (seeing as Fox and NBC could have easily screwed it up), but so far its been great. I really like the interface and the quality of the content is great. There isn’t anywhere else that I’d be able to legally imbed my favorite show on my blog.

Nothing is boring... →
Some of the best art is made by taking something seemingly “boring” and turning that notion on its ear. Bruketa&Zinic achieve this with their design of an annual report for the food company Podravka. This would never happen in the U.S. From dezeen » Croatian creative agency Bruketa & ZinićPodravka that has to be baked in an oven before it can be read. have designed an...

SmugBlog: Why traditional ‘print’ media is doomed →
A subject that continues to fascinate me is that of otherwise smart and successful entities completely missing opportunities online. Here is another great example from SmugBlog who’s chief writer Don MacAskill was interviewed for stories in the LA Times and BusinessWeek. The interview process went well with in-depth questioning and fact checkers (the kind of fare that doesn’t occur...

FRONTLINE: Growing Up Online:  →
Saw this really interesting Frontline that explored the digital gap between adults and youth. One of the great things about Frontline is that they are all available to watch online. I highly recommend this one as well as the plethora of others to choose from. My favorite idea that came out of the doc was articulated by a teen girl who said (and I’m paraphrasing) “My parents...

Atlantic Monthly sets its archive free - Thanks... →
Beginning today, TheAtlantic.com is dropping its subscriber registration requirement and making the site free to all visitors. This includes all issues going back to 1995, along with hundreds of articles dating as far back as 1857! The news that won’t be reported is that ADVERTISING made all of this possible. Without the ad supported model that the Atlantic Monthly adopted all of this...

Centernetworks Rumor: Wikipedia's Redesign?  →
There is a rumor flying around that Wikipedia will be redesigning its minimalistic and slightly less than aesthetically pleasing layout. The people at centernetworks don’t like the look of the concept layout. I on the other hand think it would be a welcom change. Maybe not the best solution but seems a little more user friendly than it is now. And isn’t that what all the students who...

By: Phillip  Arguably the largest retail trend of 2007 and 2008 is and will be the environment/green movement. More and more products and brands are going green and there is a lot of money to be made. I work on brands that are taking advantage of the green dollar and have noticed a disconnect between the philosophy behind the green movement and the main driver for most Americans to do good...
